Moscow vacation scheme

Applications

Applications for the 2010 Moscow vacation schemes are now closed.

We are looking for students who are performing at the highest academic level at their university and possess strong Russian language skills.

If your application is successful, you’ll be interviewed by two partners in London and will undertake part of the interview in Russian. You will be asked to review a short business case study and the interview will be based around both your analysis of this exercise and key competencies we feel make successful solicitors.

The Moscow vacation scheme

A vacation scheme is a great introduction to being a trainee at Herbert Smith. Students from the UK and around the world in their penultimate or final year of law, final year of non-law studies, or graduates are encouraged to apply. You will need to have strong Russian language skills.

During your placement you’ll spend one week in the London office, followed by two weeks in Moscow. During this time you sit in the same room as a partner or associate and be given real work for real clients. You’ll be involved in workshops and presentations that provide an insight into the breadth of practice areas in the firm. During your time in Moscow you will also have some free time in order to explore the city.

We’ll arrange formal and informal social events for you to meet others on the vacation scheme, as well as partners, associates and trainees. By the end of the placement you should have a good idea of whether a career in law is right for you – and whether that career might ultimately be at Herbert Smith CIS.

We will pay you £350 per week during each week of the scheme and will provide advice on sourcing accommodation in London. In Moscow we will organise your flights, visas and accommodation.

At the end of the Moscow placement you will be offered the opportunity to sit for a training contract interview with the Moscow office. For more information on the Moscow training contract click here.
