“After studying law I completed several vacation placements, before deciding on Herbert Smith because of its litigation expertise. I also found it to be the most friendly and down to earth firm: the partners are approachable and the open door policy is real, not just a marketing phrase.
Since qualifying I have focused on public law and human rights, both contentious and advisory. This has led me to some high profile and politically controversial work, such as defending the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority's decisions on research involving the creation of hybrid embryos.
Herbert Smith’s approach is to find different ways of adding value, in addition to the role of a solicitor. There is an emphasis on handling our own cases, rather than relying on counsel for everything, which means we get a much more interesting experience as litigators. Running through everything is an enormous pride in all the work that goes out with the Herbert Smith name on it.
Since returning from maternity leave last year I’ve been on a flexible working pattern, which has been tremendously successful. I am still allocated good quality work and appreciate the opportunity to spend more time with my family.”
