“I studied Molecular Genetics and graduated in 2006. Despite not having studied law it was something that always interested me, so I applied and obtained a place on a vacation scheme at Herbert Smith.

As a wheelchair user, the firm provided all the extra support I needed. I met some great people within the firm and on the scheme, which had a good balance between work and social events.

My supervisors in the dispute resolution and corporate seats involved me in the cases they were dealing with. I sat in on conference calls and meetings with third parties and did research tasks and general legal duties, such as drafting and proof-reading important documents. I learnt a lot about the role of a commercial lawyer at Herbert Smith, which was important as I was coming from a non-law background. My placement was enjoyable and interesting and I accepted the offer of a training contract immediately.

Since all future joiners do the LPC at BPP, you get to know your future colleagues before. The firm also organises several social events and training days during the year, which makes the transition from student to trainee solicitor much easier.”
